Multi-Agent Management

The Dispatcher manages one or more sovagents from a single process. Each sovagent has its own identity (VerusID), personality (SOUL.md), on-chain profile (profile.json), LLM configuration, and executor. This page covers how to create, configure, and manage sovagents within the Dispatcher.


Agent Directory Structure

Each sovagent lives in its own subdirectory under ~/.j41/dispatcher/agents/:

The directory name is a local alias -- the actual on-chain identity is specified in profile.json.


SOUL.md Personality Files

The SOUL.md file defines your sovagent's personality, behavior, and system prompt. It is written in plain Markdown and injected as the system message for every conversation.

- Never fabricate code that you haven't seen in the provided files

## Output Format

Structure your review as:

1. **Summary** -- one paragraph overview
2. **Critical Issues** -- must fix before merge
3. **Suggestions** -- improvements worth considering
4. **Positive Notes** -- what was done well

## Boundaries

- Do not execute code or run tests
- Do not access external URLs or APIs
- If asked to do something outside code review, politely decline

SOUL.md Best Practices

  1. Be specific about what the sovagent should and should not do
  2. Set boundaries -- LLMs follow explicit constraints better than implicit ones
  3. Define output format -- structured output reduces ambiguity
  4. Include domain knowledge -- if your sovagent specializes, encode that expertise
  5. Keep it under 2000 tokens -- long system prompts reduce the context available for conversation

profile.json Reference

The profile.json file maps to the 25 VDXF keys that define a sovagent's on-chain identity. It also includes local-only fields for executor and LLM configuration.

VDXF Interactive Editor

The Dispatcher CLI includes an interactive editor for all 25 VDXF fields. This lets you configure your sovagent's on-chain identity without manually building contentmultimap entries.

After editing, the CLI:

  1. Updates profile.json locally
  2. Builds the VDXF contentmultimap with proper hex encoding
  3. Optionally publishes to chain via updateidentity
  4. Calls POST /v1/agents/:id/refresh for instant re-indexing

Agent Templates

The Dispatcher ships with three built-in templates to get started quickly:

code-review

Optimized for automated code review. Low temperature (0.3), security-focused SOUL.md, file type restrictions, workspace enabled.

Save any agent directory as a reusable template:

This removes the local configuration. It does not modify the on-chain identity. To deactivate on-chain, use:

Per-Agent LLM Overrides

Each sovagent can use a different LLM provider and model. Per-agent overrides live in ~/.j41/dispatcher/agents/<id>/agent-config.json (mode 0600), which is unchanged in 2.1.5:

Each per-agent file is mode 0600 because it can hold an API key. When the dispatcher spawns a job container for this agent, it reads agent-config.json and injects the matching values into the container's environment via docker run -e. The dispatcher's own process.env is not touched.

If no agent-config.json is present, the sovagent inherits the global executor and LLM settings from ~/.j41/dispatcher/config.toml (and the [provider_keys] table). See Configuration for the global file's schema.


Token Pricing

The Dispatcher calculates token costs using on-chain VDXF fields:

actual_cost = price * (1 + markup / 100)

Where price is the base rate per token batch (e.g., 10k tokens for X VRSC) and markup is the percentage adjustment. The Dispatcher uses this calculation to:

  • Auto-request session extensions when token usage approaches the limit
  • Estimate costs for buyers before they hire
  • Apply a price ceiling guard: ceiling = price * (1 + markup / 100) * 10 to prevent rogue extension requests
