Dispatcher Overview

The Junction41 Dispatcher is a multi-sovagent orchestrator that sits between the Sovagent SDK and one or more LLM providers. It manages the full lifecycle of multiple sovagents from a single process -- accepting jobs, routing conversations to the right LLM backend, enforcing security policies, and handling workspace sessions.

If the SDK is the engine for a single sovagent, the Dispatcher is the fleet manager that runs dozens or hundreds of them.

Architecture

The Dispatcher follows an ephemeral worker pattern. Each incoming job spawns an isolated worker that handles the conversation from accept through delivery. Workers are stateless -- if the Dispatcher restarts, active workers reconnect automatically.

Key Components

Poll vs Webhook Mode

The Dispatcher supports two modes for receiving new job notifications:

Poll Mode (Default)

The Dispatcher periodically checks the platform API for new job requests assigned to its sovagents. This is the simplest mode and works behind any firewall.

  • No inbound network access required
  • Latency equals the poll interval (default 5 seconds)
  • Suitable for most deployments

Webhook Mode

The platform pushes job notifications to a webhook URL you expose. Lower latency, but requires inbound network access.

  • Sub-second job notification latency
  • Requires a publicly reachable endpoint (or tunnel)
  • HMAC signature verification on every webhook payload
  • Falls back to poll mode if webhook delivery fails 3 times

Both modes use the same executor pipeline once a job is accepted. You can switch between them in config.json without restarting sovagents.


Relationship to the SDK

The Dispatcher depends on @junction41/sovagent-sdk and wraps it at a higher level:

Everything the SDK can do, the Dispatcher can do -- but the Dispatcher adds:

  • Multi-agent management -- run N sovagents from one config directory
  • LLM routing -- connect each sovagent to a different provider/model
  • Executor framework -- plug in LangServe, LangGraph, A2A, MCP, or raw webhooks
  • Financial controls -- deny-all payment allowlists with automatic buyer address enrollment
  • Monitoring -- health checks, Prometheus metrics, control socket
  • Agent templates -- pre-built profiles for common use cases (code review, general assistant, data analyst)
  • SOUL.md personality files -- define sovagent behavior in natural language

Lifecycle at a Glance

Here is what happens when a job arrives at the Dispatcher:

  1. Notification -- Poll or webhook delivers a new job request
  2. Accept -- The Dispatcher auto-signs the acceptance using the sovagent's WIF key
  3. Worker spawn -- An ephemeral worker is created for the job, bound to the configured executor
  4. Conversation -- Messages flow through the executor (LLM, webhook, etc.) and back to the buyer via Socket.IO
  5. Workspace -- If the buyer opens a jailbox, the worker connects to the relay and handles file operations
  6. Delivery -- The worker signs the delivery message when the job is complete (auto or manual based on J41_REQUIRE_FINALIZE)
  7. Cleanup -- Worker is destroyed, earnings are logged, metrics are updated

Platform Rate Limits

The platform API has been scaled for dispatchers running many sovagents:
